Before I was born, way back in the 1900's, music was already a big part of my little life. My dad, a talented independent bass guitarist, played with numerous cover bands around the Portland area during the 1970s and 1980s so I grew up surrounded by him practicing his music every day. some of my earliest childhood memories are of my dad and his bandmates jammin on their guitars, keyboards and drums in the various diy home studios he helped build. My knowledge and familiarity of those musical spaces quickly became second nature, permanentlY embedding my compassion for the artist’s struggle in the music industry, Paternal Perspective
I've also experienced being a musician a few times in my life. In elementary school, I learned to play piano. through middle school, I learned clarinet and also sang in the school choir all three years. By the time I reached high school my crippling stage fright and teenage insecurities brought my performance days to an end, but not until after I gained that deeper level of appreciation and respect for all music creators and performers. Mother Material As for my craftiness and eye for design, I credit my mom, who taught me more creative skills than I can count. Arts, crafts, DIY projects, sewing, cooking, gardening—you name it. She showed me how to bring my ideas to life, and always kept me busy trying something new. I also inherited my passion for genealogy from my maternal grandmother, who loved to bring out the old photo albums at family gatherings. Her love for finding, preserving, and telling those old stories has stuck with me through the years. A Major Manifestation as 2010 began, I experienced one of the biggest turning points of my life. I'll never forget it... The day I met Rappy dooski. The moment I heard his voice and listened to his music for the first time… he really had me Speechless ... as if those words he wrote months before were a PREMONITION. Yes, the whole "love at first sight" thing seems corny and cliché,... until it happens to you! I fell in love with his voice and music before we met in person. once we did meet it was very clear— this is meant to be. A-1 Since Day One
Move It Or Lose It Rappy and I have both worn many hats throughout this journey. (Read more on that here in the [PDX Radio Origin Story]) Fast forward to 2023- When I took on the leadership role at PDX Radio full-time, I made the decision to be fully involved for a few reasons: I knew the platform had a ton of potential to be more than just an online station— it could be a real movement. Hell, It NEEDED to be a real movement. at that point Rappy was on the brink of calling it quits. Feeling the stagnation and exhaustion from doing it all on his own was taking its toll on him. And as the deeply empathetic person that I am, of course I felt it too. As his partner, I knew there had to be something I could do to help.. He had already invested years of time, money, and effort. Real Blood, Sweat, and Tears! And Most of all, the independent music world NEEDS this! "We didn’t come This Far So, I got started. I began by revamping the website— from programming and scheduling, to curating playlists and enhancing marketing efforts. I used my artistic skills while learning web design and digital branding, to build up our online visibility and presence, Once I took over the management, branding, and digital marketing full time, Rappy was free to get back to doing what he loves most and does best-- making music, networking, and being the face and voice of @ Pretty Dope Xperience!
