Artificial Intelligence Use Policy & Rating Standards

Introduction

PDX Radio exists to support real artists, real voices, real producers, and human-created music.
Artificial intelligence is changing the music industry quickly. Some tools can support the creative process. Other tools can replace the human creator entirely. PDX Radio draws a clear line between AI as a support tool and AI as the creator of the music.
Our standard is simple:
AI can assist the process, but it should not replace the people.
PDX Radio prioritizes human-written, human-performed, human-produced, and human-led music. We do not accept fully or primarily AI-generated music for standard rotation, charts, artist promotion, or featured programming.
1. Core Policy Standard

PDX Radio reviews music based on whether the final submission is meaningfully human-created and human-led.
The following creative elements matter most:
  • Human songwriting
  • Human vocal performance
  • Human musical performance
  • Human beat production or arrangement
  • Human creative direction
  • Human identity, story, and artist presence
  • Accurate rights, credits, and metadata

AI-assisted tools may be allowed when they support the work.
​AI-generated music is not allowed when the machine creates or replaces the core creative work.
2. AI Use Rating Standards

PDX Radio may assign one of the following AI use ratings during submission review.
AI-FREE / HUMAN-CREATED
​No AI Used in the Music Creation

​This rating applies when no AI tools were used to create, generate, write, perform, produce, or substantially alter the submitted music.
​​Examples may include:
  • Human-written lyrics
  • Human-performed vocals
  • Human-created beat or instrumental
  • Human mixing and mastering
  • Traditional studio tools, DAWs, plugins, EQ, compression, and vocal effects used without generative AI
Eligibility:
Eligible for normal PDX Radio review, rotation, charts, playlists, interviews, and promotional opportunities, subject to all other submission standards.
AI-ASSISTED / HUMAN-LED
​AI Tools Used With Human Creative Control

This rating applies when AI was used as a support tool, but the core creative work remains human-created and human-performed.
Examples may include:
  • AI-assisted mixing
  • AI-assisted mastering
  • AI-assisted audio cleanup or restoration
  • AI-assisted brainstorming
  • AI-assisted formatting, captions, bios, or promotional copy
  • AI-assisted artwork or visual assets
  • AI-assisted beat ideas, melody ideas, or arrangement suggestions, where the final work was substantially created, selected, performed, edited, and controlled by a human artist or producer
Eligibility:
May be eligible for normal PDX Radio review, rotation, charts, playlists, interviews, and promotion if AI use is properly disclosed and the track meets PDX Radio’s human-led music standard.
Required Disclosure:
Artists must clearly disclose what tools were used and how they were used.
​PARTIALLY AI-GENERATED / REVIEWED CASE BY CASE
AI-Generated Creative Elements Included

​This rating applies when the submission contains AI-generated creative material, but there is still meaningful human contribution.
Examples may include:
  • AI-generated instrumental elements
  • AI-generated musical loops or sections
  • AI-generated melody, hook, or arrangement elements
  • AI-generated lyric sections
  • AI-generated background vocals
  • AI-generated sound design used as part of a larger human-created track
  • AI-generated artwork or visuals connected to the release
  • AI-generated material that has been substantially edited, arranged, performed over, or transformed by a human creator
Eligibility:
This category is high-risk for denial and is reviewed case by case.
PDX Radio may decline, hold, limit, label, or approve the submission depending on the role AI played in the final work.
Partially AI-generated music is not automatically eligible for standard rotation, charts, or artist promotion. Approval depends on whether the human artist remains the clear creative driver of the final recording.
FULLY AI-GENERATED / NOT ALLOWED
Machine-Generated Content

This rating applies when the song is fully or primarily created by AI.
Examples include:
  • Text-to-song outputs with minimal human creative contribution
  • AI-generated lead vocals presented as the artist’s performance
  • AI-generated lyrics, melody, instrumental, and vocals forming most of the song
  • Synthetic artists, synthetic performers, or fictional AI personas presented as real artists
  • AI-generated music submitted under misleading artist identity
  • Songs where the submitter only entered prompts and did not meaningfully write, perform, produce, arrange, or transform the final work
Eligibility:
Not eligible for approval, rotation, charts, playlists, artist promotion, interviews, or featured placement.
PDX Radio may decline or remove this content at any stage.
UNDISCLOSED / UNDER REVIEW
​AI Use Is Unclear, Incomplete, or Inconsistent

This internal rating applies when AI use is suspected, unclear, not properly explained, or inconsistent with the submitted information.
Examples may include:
  • Artist says “No AI,” but the track appears to include synthetic vocals or generated elements
  • AI use is disclosed, but the artist does not explain how it was used
  • Metadata, credits, artist identity, or release information appears inconsistent
  • The submitter cannot confirm who wrote, performed, produced, or controlled the recording
  • Third-party producers or collaborators may have used AI but the submitter is unsure
Eligibility:
The submission may be held until PDX Radio receives clarification. Failure to respond or provide accurate information may result in rejection, removal, or loss of future submission privileges.
3. Required AI Disclosure

​All artists, managers, labels, producers, and submitters must disclose whether AI was used in connection with a submission.
This includes AI used for:
  • Brainstorming or creative inspiration
  • Lyric assistance
  • Lyric generation
  • Melody assistance
  • Melody generation
  • Beat, loop, or instrumental assistance
  • Beat, loop, or instrumental generation
  • Mixing
  • Mastering
  • Audio restoration or vocal cleanup
  • Cover artwork or visual assets
  • Promotional copy, captions, bios, or marketing materials
  • Vocal generation
  • Voice cloning, voice modeling, voice imitation, or synthetic vocal creation
  • Synthetic artist, performer, or persona creation
  • Any other AI use connected to the release
PDX Radio may request additional clarification before making a final review decision.
4. No Unauthorized Voice Cloning, Deepfakes, or Impersonation

​PDX Radio does not permit submissions that use AI to clone, imitate, model, or alter a person’s voice, image, likeness, style, or identity without clear documented permission.
This includes:
  • AI-generated impersonations of real artists
  • AI-generated vocals made to sound like another person
  • Voice clones of artists, collaborators, public figures, or private individuals without consent
  • Deepfake visuals or promotional materials
  • Synthetic performances presented as real human performances
  • Misleading artist identity or fake artist personas
Documented consent may be required before PDX Radio will continue review.
Unauthorized voice cloning, impersonation, and synthetic identity misuse may result in immediate rejection or removal.
5. Traditional Music Tools Are Not Automatically AI

​PDX Radio does not treat every digital tool as AI.
The following are not automatically considered AI-generated music:
  • DAWs
  • Autotune
  • Vocal tuning
  • EQ
  • Compression
  • Reverb
  • Delay
  • Sampling, when properly cleared or licensed
  • Loop kits, when properly licensed
  • MIDI programming
  • Drum machines
  • Synthesizers
  • Standard plugins
  • Human-controlled editing, arranging, mixing, and mastering tools

​However, if a tool generates lyrics, vocals, melodies, beats, instrumental sections, performances, or artist identity elements through AI, that use must be disclosed
6. Metadata, Credits, and Rights Compliance

Artists and submitters must provide accurate information about:
  • Artist name
  • Song title
  • Featured artists
  • Producers
  • Songwriters
  • Label or release owner
  • Album or project title
  • ISRC, when available
  • Release date
  • Explicit or clean status
  • AI use
  • Samples, loops, beats, or third-party material
  • Rights ownership or authorization to submit

​Incorrect, incomplete, or misleading metadata may delay review or result in rejection.
PDX Radio may also remove a track if later information shows that the submission was inaccurate, unauthorized, misleading, or outside PDX Radio’s AI use standards.
7. PDX Radio Review Process

PDX Radio may review submissions using a combination of:
  • Submission form disclosures
  • Artist responses
  • Metadata review
  • Audio review
  • Rights and credit review
  • Public release information
  • Internal human review
  • AI screening tools, when useful

​AI screening tools are not treated as final proof by themselves. Final decisions are made through PDX Radio’s internal review process.
PDX Radio may ask the submitter to clarify how AI was used before approving, holding, labeling, or declining a submission.
8. Public Labels and Content Notices

PDX Radio may apply public or internal labels when appropriate, including:
  • AI-FREE / HUMAN-CREATED
  • AI-ASSISTED / HUMAN-LED
  • PARTIALLY AI-GENERATED / REVIEWED CASE BY CASE
  • FULLY AI-GENERATED / NOT ALLOWED

The UNDISCLOSED / UNDER REVIEW rating may be used internally during the review process but is not necessarily a public-facing label.
These labels are used to protect transparency, artist trust, listener trust, and the integrity of PDX Radio’s charts, playlists, and platform activity.
A label does not guarantee approval, promotion, chart eligibility, or continued placement
9. Consequences for Policy Violations
​​Violations of this policy may result in:
  • Submission hold
  • Request for clarification
  • Rejection from review
  • Removal from rotation
  • Removal from playlists
  • Removal from charts
  • Removal from promotional opportunities
  • Loss of eligibility for PDX Radio programs, charts, playlists, events, and promotional opportunities
  • Loss of future submission privileges
  • Permanent ban from PDX Radio participation in serious cases

​Serious violations may include:
  • Submitting fully AI-generated music as human-created
  • Hiding AI-generated vocals
  • Hiding AI-generated instrumentals
  • Using unauthorized voice clones
  • Misrepresenting artist identity
  • Submitting music without proper rights
  • Providing false or misleading metadata
  • Repeated failure to disclose AI use

PDX Radio reserves the right to make final platform decisions in order to protect the community, the artists, the listeners, and the integrity of the music.
10. No AI Training, Scraping, or Unauthorized Data Use

PDX Radio does not grant permission for any person, company, platform, bot, crawler, or AI system to scrape, copy, train on, clone, model, imitate, or commercially exploit PDX Radio content, artist submissions, station programming, interviews, audio, visuals, metadata, or platform materials without written authorization.
Artist submissions are provided to PDX Radio for review, airplay consideration, platform operation, and related promotional activity only. Submission to PDX Radio does not give third parties permission to use that work for AI training or synthetic content generation.
11. Policy Updates

AI technology is changing quickly. PDX Radio may update this policy as needed to reflect new tools, new risks, new legal developments, and new platform standards.

Artists are responsible for reviewing the current version of this policy before submitting music.
